ABOUT the Workshop

SATURDAY, June 27 with two sessions - 10:00 AM - noon & 1pm - 3PM

WHERE: YOUTH CENTER (ENTRANCE #9) AT CHRIST WESLEYAN

 Looking to take to the stage at CWTP or at any theatre in the area? The Ace Your Audition Workshop is made for you. Develop your confidence in your acting and singing skills at this one day only workshop designed to help you reach your potential. While we can’t guarantee you’ll make the cut at your next audition, we hope this workshop will give you the chance to build your skills.

You may sign up for one session or both! The morning session will focus on acting, cold reading scenes, audition etiquette and more. This session will be led by Kahlie Dehotman -- director of the 2025 production of "The Play That Goes Wrong." The afternoon session will focus on vocal technique and musical performance for musical auditions. This session will be led by Brent Mestach.


Meet Your Workshop Leaders

Kahlie DeHotman

Kahlie DeHotman is the first guest director we have worked with at Christ Wesleyan Theatre Productions — directing our 2025 production of The Play That Goes Wrong. Kahlie is a Messiah University graduate and has studied theatre abroad in London. She has worked in many local theatres -- recently in Blithe Spirit (CTL), Miracle on 34th Street (CTL), A Few Good Men (CTL), and Much Ado About Nothing (Gaspipe). She also recently directed Cheaper by the Dozen (CTL), Noises Off (CTL), and The Glass Menagerie (Studio 570). Kahlie loves Halloween and being a cat mom with her husband Billy Martel.

Brent Mestach

Brent attends Christ Wesleyan and is their Creative Director of Communications/Broadcast. He has done multiple shows with CWTP. Brent was the Beast for Evermore in Enchanted Evening, Maui & the Prince for Enchanted Evening, Beast in Beauty and the Beast, Statue in Mary Poppins: The Broadway Musical, Philip Lombard in And ThenThere Were None, Thomas Andrews in Titanic the Musical and Harry Monday in If It’s Monday, This Must Be Murder!.He also performed as Simon Stride in Jekyll & Hide at RiverStage Theatre. In 2011, Brent was a contestant on Season 9 of American Idol. His favorite thing to do is anything involving the fine arts.

Is there a cost to attend the workshop?

No. This is our gift to you. We hope that you find it valuable no matter if you are looking to audition at CWTP or at any other community theatre in the area. However we ask that in order to help us prepare that you would sign up using the link on this page.

Is there an age limit for the workshop?

No, all ages are welcome to attend. However the workshop is geared towards adults looking to audition for theatre roles in the area.

Is there anything I need to bring?

We recommend that you come dressed in clothing and shoes you feel comfortable moving around in as movement is often an integral part of theatre. You may also want to bring a water bottle. There is a water bottle refill station near the Youth Center. Feel free to also bring a notebook or device to take notes, though the main thrust of the workshop will be interactive. If you are signing up for the vocal music session, you should prepare to sing a roughly 30s - 1 minute vocal selection, similar to what you would prepare for a musical audition. You can bring a track with you or sheet music/lyrics if you so desire.

What are the sessions for the workshop?

Stage Acting - led by Kahlie DeHotman. This workshop will teach you how do a cold reading at auditions, take you through a series of acting and movement exercises, and give you an idea of the sort of things that directors look for when taking a role in a musical or play.

Vocal Music - led by Brent Mestach. This workshop will teach you how to hone your vocal technique for a Broadway quality tone and style give you practical pointers for your vocal style. The workshop will also give you tips on how to practice your vocal selection on your own time.

Can I do both session?

Yes. If you do both sessions, there will be a break from noon to 1pm. Lunch is not provided during this time, you may want to pack a lunch.

What sort of activities will be happening during the workshop?

The workshop is designed to give you experience and confidence for your next audition. While the exact nature of an audition differs from theatre company to theatre company (or even director to director), most auditions feature reading a script or performing a vocal selection. The workshop is designed to help you hone your skills for specifically those things.
